In case you haven't already heard of it- some time ago I stumbled upon a free open source DIY 3D printed humanoid project. I ended up printing one hand/arm on my Solidoodle 2 printer with fantastic results. The files are simply amazing. Gael made all the parts available for anyone who wishes to reproduce an entire humanoid robot at a bargain basement price. Looking forward to seeing this advance.
Here's the vids of my build:

Re: InMoov 3D printed robot
Hi, Eric!
I am a Korean living in Busan, Korea.
I have seen your InMoov videos on YouTube and would like to make one for my dear friend
who lost his right hand and also his right wrist due to a terrible car accident long time ago.
(His right arm is OK, though.)
Your InMoove prosthetic seems to work fairly well for my friend except the fact that it
would be too long for my friend since he lost his hand and about 2 inches above his
wrist. It would be great if the electronic parts (motors and so on) can be squeezed
inside the 2" long space. (Maybe too small?)
I also want to add a brain control interface, if possible. Yes, I saw your Mind Flex headset
videos but I want to use a better solution than that even if it costs somewhat more. Do
you know any alternative solution to the Mind Flex headset? (I don't think he would wear
such a headset all the time!)
If not feasible, I might just try to use a prosthetic with no electronic parts. If you have
not yet watched the following videos, please take a look at them:

3D Printing in Animatronics: Easton LaChappelle

I plan to buy or build a 3D printer for this purpose and, if possible, I hope you to help me
make a prosthetic for him since I do not know much about 3D printing especially with
respect to electronics needed to make it.
If I can make one for him, I would love to do the same thing for other Koreans (in particular,
for those kids with Amniotic Band Syndrome).
Best regards,
Tae

Hi Tae!
First off- Sorry to hear about your friends issue but I'm super excited you are starting your project! I saw that post/video on the DIY hand they made and I was blown away. What a truly exciting time to be involved with making in general. When DIY prosthetics are out preforming commercial ones- things are truly amazing.
Not sure if you saw this one- but may be along the lines of what you want to build:

My unit would not be well suited for a prosthetic at all. Gael (who made the entire InMoov project) is actually making a prosthetic version right now and I think it is nearing completion. You may want to check it out.
Anything I can do to help- Let me know!
